European Year of Creativity and Innovation
The goal of the European Year 2009 is to promote creativity and innovation among the general population.
It has become a tradition for every year to be devoted to a particular theme in the European Union and for a European Year on a fundamental, cross-cutting issue to be declared.
For instance, 2007 was the Year of Equal Opportunities, while 2008 is the Year of Intercultural Dialogue. Following in-depth consultations, 2009 was proposed as the European Year of Creativity and Innovation.
Creative thinking and competent problem-solving are essential in economic, social and artistic fields. However, creativity and innovation in the arts and in the field of technology and trade are rarely well interconnected. In this context, the European Year 2009 should draw public attention to these aspects in a coherent way.
