Eu2009.cz ranks among the best European websites changing the world of the Internet and politics

The Brussels-based not-for-profit organisation European Center of Political Technologies has included the website of the Czech Presidency "cz2009.eu" among the 10 best European Internet projects in the "European eDemocracy Award" category.

The winners were chosen on 22 October at a gala evening as part of the 10th World e-Democracy Forum in Paris.

In July 2009 the website of the Czech Presidency had already been included among the 50 finalists of the competition - meaning the best projects that, through the internet, have contributed to strengthening democracy and involving citizens in public debate. All the websites were then thoroughly assessed by an expert international jury that focused mainly on creativity and innovation in the implementation of the website, the quality of the content, the impacts on the target groups, the scope of communication tools used and, last but not least, the quality of the technical design and the user accessibility of the website.

"We highly value this important international award in the fields of the Internet and information technologies. Mere inclusion among the finalists was a great success. The fact that the official Presidency website achieved success during the presentation of the awards is once again a confirmation of the excellent work performed by the whole Presidency team," said Minister for EU Affairs Štefan Füle.

The official Internet portal www.eu2009.cz was the main communication tool of the Czech Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2009. The website provided all its information in three languages – Czech, English and French. The Czech website attracted higher visitor figures than those of previous presiding countries, with over two million people visiting it in the first half of 2009 - establishing a new record.
